Default New continent concept

I was bored so I thought this up...

Summary

The main idea of this continent is that it is almost entirely in-doors or underground. It has 4 regions: The tunnels, the temples, the tundra, and the core. It is barbaric and dark area, with unholy....large, and scary looking monsters frequenting it.

Background:
Thousands of years ago, the continent was a very peaceful and holy place. Those who lived there were one of the most advanced civilizations on the planet , with technology and magic far ahead of all the others.

Then, there came an asteroid from space which hit the continent with incredible force. It created a giant crater and spewed up enough dust and ash into the sky, blocking out the sun. Those who survived fled underground and created a series of tunnels and mines to survive. Radioactive minerals found in the soil kept it warm and morphed the creatures who lived there in the process. New human races were formed (yet to be detrmined).

Many of the people who survived abandoned their old gods. Instead, they found faith in a new, unconfirmed god. He is powerful but deceptive with evil intentions.... much like grenth only more devil-ish. Holy-Wars wage between those who still believe in the old gods and those who believe in this new one.

One man(or possibly a female villain this time) has finally reached this god, and channels his power to do evil. He sends up demonic forces throughout the continent. Your job is simply to travel to "the core" where he is spawning the demons and destroy him. Another thought is that you could actually battle the god himself.

Regions

The tunnels

The tunnels are dark underground tunnels lit only by fire. They have the occasional underground lake or river, as well as man-made underground houses and buildings. Some are very narrow, while some are very wide. They resemble the catacombs somewhat although they are brighter and contain more wildlife. It has awkward plants which grow from the energy in the radiation, and barbaric ugly animals which eat them. The radioactive minerals glow on the walls and floor of the tunnels.

The temples.

There are two types of temples, temples built to worship the old gods and those built to worship the new one. Each are huge and built above-ground...large enough so that many people and creatures can live in them. There are those built to worship the old gods which are huge and lined with gold, and those built to worship the new god are dark and twisted looking-- made out of mud like a mayan pyramid. The temples for the old gods only contain rebels seeking to bring down the religion as foes, while the temples for the new god contain evil spirits and demons. This region isn't one stand-alone area, but more like an area that pops up every once in a while as you are traveling through the tunnels.

The Tundra

The tundra is what would be the "starter area". It's a community on an island off the continent that wasn't as affected as much by the blast. It's a cold, flat, frozen forest. The ground is made of ice but there's almost no snow, like a cross between the jade sea and echivald forest. THe community is made of peasents divided in religion but still work together, unlike on the main land. My idea was to make a society like pre-searing ascalon... only colder.

The Core.

The core is an incredibly hot area far below the ground. It's covered with boiling lakes, geizers, and rain. The ground is glowing red like it's almost molten, even though there's no lava. Much of it is shallow water which you can walk through. Many of the enemies are either aquatic animals or warped plants which attack you.

Thoughts? I realize that some of this is kind of over the top, but I don't expect anet to follow the plot exactly... just to take into consideration the general ideas

i like your idea but it sounds too scientific for a fantasy game. It might be better if it started out as the "super-society" that you had in mind... living peacefully... then suddenly "fiery judgement" from the heavens rains down and everyone thinks it is the old gods punishing them so those who wish to spare themselves flee underground. However... the fanatics who also beleive it is the old gods punishing them beleive that it is the fault of the ones who fled... so they wish to seek them out and punish them. Those who fled found a new god who promised to stop the heavenly destruction if the people met some crazy goal like.... either tear down the old temples (city seige missions) or kill the opposing god's followers/avatars... or something like that. Later it is discovered that in fact the "New God" is the one that started the fire storms above and imprissioned the old gods just so that he would be the all powerful.... worshiped by all. From here the missions turns into saving the old gods from thier imprissionments by defeating thier gaurds and keeping thier embodiements (normal mortals with the powers/attributes of the god they embody) safe through the mission and back to thier primary temple. When all this is done you team up with the new empowered gods to battle against the "new god" .... how is that? i thought it kind of fit in a bit more nicely with a fantasy theme instead of the sci-fi theme of a meteor. I did really like your world idea though.... i think it is one GREAT way to go with the game cause i don't think a south american theme would be cool... and that is the only other semi-possible thing i see happening. Just my opinion though. Once again.... really good idea and very original.
